EZ-OX Oxalic Acid for Bees – 400 g Bag
The oxalic acid we run in every InstantVap, and the one we'd put in any vaporizer. EZ-OX is 97% oxalic acid dihydrate with no sugar carrier, registered with the EPA for varroa mite control in honey bee hives (EPA Reg. No. 101743-2), and made in Cambridge, Ohio by Mike's Bees, a veteran-owned company run by a beekeeper.
What you get
- 400 g of 97% oxalic acid dihydrate — 100 treatments at the label rate of 4 g per deep box, or about 200 at the 2 g per box we recommend and run ourselves.
- EPA-registered. Legal to use in a US hive, and labeled for use with honey supers on.
- Burns clean. No glucose or silica excipients, so nothing caramelizes in the chamber. The bowl comes out clean, treatment after treatment.
- Works in any oxalic acid vaporizer. InstantVap, ProVap, Varrox, Varrox Eddy, a pan-style wand — the acid doesn't care which tool heats it.
- Made in the USA. Registered to and produced by Mike's Bees LLC in Ohio, not repackaged from an overseas chemical supplier.
The price, plainly
$24.95 for 400 g works out to about 12 cents per 2 g dose. Api-Bioxal runs $54.99 for 350 g at most suppliers — roughly 31 cents a dose, for a product that leaves a charred residue you scrape out of the vaporizer. With oxalic acid the acid is never the expensive part. There is no reason to pay two and a half times more for it. Full comparison: Api-Bioxal vs EZ-OX.
Vaporizer dose
- The label: 4 g of powder per deep brood chamber, and 4 g per deep box is the maximum legal dose.
- What we recommend: 2 g per brood box — a single deep gets 2 g, a double deep gets 4 g. It is the dose most of our customers have run for years, and why the InstantVap plunger adjusts from 1 to 4 g. Step up to the full 4 g per box for a heavy infestation.
- Seal the entrance, vaporize, keep the hive closed for 10 minutes.
- Oxalic acid reaches mites on adult bees, not mites under capped brood. One treatment does the most work when the colony is broodless. With brood present, run a spaced series — the Treatment Series Planner builds the schedule and tells you how many grams you'll need.
Dosing by box, timing by season and the two best treatment days of the year: How much oxalic acid per hive.
Running more than a few hives?
The 5 lb bucket is the same acid at about 10 cents a dose — over 1,100 two-gram treatments — for sideliners and commercial yards buying oxalic acid in bulk.
Storage
Resealable, moisture-resistant bag. Keep it closed and dry and oxalic acid dihydrate keeps for years.
Safety
Oxalic acid vapor must never be inhaled. Wear a NIOSH-approved respirator with acid-gas cartridges, gloves and eye protection, and stand upwind. We use the PD-101 full-face respirator. Step by step: how to use an oxalic acid vaporizer safely.

Frequently asked questions
Is EZ-OX legal to use for beekeeping in the US?
Yes. EZ-OX is EPA-registered (Reg. No. 101743-2) for varroa mite control in honey bee colonies. Only EPA-registered oxalic acid may legally be used in a hive; hardware-store wood bleach and unlabeled "technical grade" oxalic acid are not registered and using them in a hive violates federal law.
Do I need an InstantVap to use EZ-OX?
No. EZ-OX works in any oxalic acid vaporizer — InstantVap, ProVap, Varrox, Varrox Eddy, or a pan-style wand. The label rate is the same regardless of the tool.
Can I use EZ-OX with honey supers on?
Yes. The EZ-OX label permits use when honey supers are on the hive. Manufacturers still advise against treating during an active nectar flow.
Will EZ-OX leave residue in my vaporizer?
No. EZ-OX is 97% oxalic acid dihydrate with no sugar or silica excipients, so it sublimates cleanly and leaves nothing to scrape out of the chamber. Products that include a glucose carrier are widely reported to caramelize into a charred deposit.
How many treatments are in a 400 g bag?
100 at the label rate of 4 g per deep box, or about 200 at the 2 g per box we recommend. A backyard beekeeper with five hives running a summer series plus fall and winter treatments at 2 g uses roughly 160 g a year, so one bag lasts about two seasons.
Is EZ-OX registered in my state?
EZ-OX is registered federally by the EPA, and states register products separately. It is registered in nearly every state; California is the well-known exception. If in doubt, check your state department of agriculture's registered-pesticide list.

Easy to use
"This makes OA treatment much easier. Moving between hives is much faster than using a corded version, and the quick dosing is awesome. Just be sure to wear thick gloves because the plunger gets hot swell, and changing the dosage (for hives that have different numbers of brood boxes) is not easy while it is hot."
Great product
"Fast shipping. Great packaging. The consistency is also perfect for using in my InstantVap compact without needing to add water. Plunger always holds the full dose without it crumbling out."
