Bulk oxalic acid for honey bees, for the yard that treats by the pallet, not the hive. The 5 lb bucket is 2,268 g of the same EPA-registered EZ-OX we sell by the bag — 97% oxalic acid dihydrate, no sugar carrier, made in Cambridge, Ohio by Mike's Bees, a veteran-owned company (EPA Reg. No. 101743-2). It is the cheapest legal way to put oxalic acid through a vaporizer.

Vaporizer dose
- The label: 4 g of powder per deep brood chamber, and 4 g per deep box is the maximum legal dose.
- What we recommend: 2 g per brood box — a single deep gets 2 g, a double deep gets 4 g. It is the dose most of our customers have run for years, and why the InstantVap plunger adjusts from 1 to 4 g. Step up to the full 4 g per box for a heavy infestation.
- Seal the entrance, vaporize, keep the hive closed for 10 minutes.
- Vapor reaches mites on adult bees, not mites under capped brood. With brood present, a spaced series across a full worker brood cycle is what catches them as they emerge. The Treatment Series Planner builds the schedule for your hive count and totals the grams.
Storage
Resealable pail. Keep the lid on and the bucket dry; oxalic acid dihydrate is stable for years sealed. Decant into a smaller container for the truck rather than opening the pail in the field.
Safety

How many hives will a 5 lb bucket of oxalic acid treat?
2,268 g is 567 treatments at the label rate of 4 g per deep box, or over 1,100 at the 2 g per box we recommend. A 100-hive yard running a seven-round summer series at 2 g uses about 1,400 g, leaving enough for fall and winter treatments from the same bucket.
Is bulk oxalic acid from a chemical supplier legal for bees?
No. Only EPA-registered oxalic acid products may legally be used in a beehive. Industrial or "technical grade" oxalic acid sold for wood bleaching or rust removal is not registered for hives, has no bee label, and its use in a colony violates federal law and can render honey legally adulterated. EZ-OX is registered under EPA Reg. No. 101743-2.
Is the bucket the same product as the 400 g bag?
Yes. Same 97% oxalic acid dihydrate, same EPA registration, same label. The bucket is simply the bulk size, at roughly 10 cents per dose instead of 12.
Do I need an InstantVap to use it?
No. EZ-OX works in any oxalic acid vaporizer. For yards this size we recommend the InstantVap Turbo for its 10-second cycle, but the acid and the label rate are the same in any tool.
Can I use it with honey supers on?
Yes. The EZ-OX label permits use when honey supers are on the hive. Manufacturers still advise against treating during an active nectar flow.
